We are all in on getting signatures for the Invest in Education ballot initiative! If you want to get involved in this important effort, it’s not too late! If you want to help gather signatures or turn in your completed petitions, please join us on:

• Monday, June 25 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Bourbon Jacks in downtown Chandler
• Friday, June 29 from 3:00-5:00 pm at SanTan Brewing Company in downtown Chandler

Notaries will be present at both events so petitions can be notarized and turned in. See you there!

The countdown is on to get those Invest in Education signatures! To celebrate the hard work everyone is doing, and to encourage people to get even more signatures, there will be a #REDforED Back to the Capitol and Day of Action on Saturday, June 23. This event will start at 7:30 am on the Arizona Capitol Lawn. We need a huge turnout to this event to gather signatures! Please visit the event Facebook page for full details.

What are your plans this summer? If they don’t involve helping get the Invest in Education Act on the ballot, then change them! We need all members involved if we are going to get this critical initiative on the ballot. Please join our June 9 Day of Action (that’s this Saturday!) to get involved! There are events occurring all over the Valley, so it’s easy to find an event wherever you happen to be this Saturday. We can do this!

Our Vice President runoff election has concluded, and Michelle Capriotti will be our newest CEA Vice President. Because she won the runoff election, Michelle has withdrawn from the Recording Secretary special election, and accordingly, Sharon Tuttle will be our new Corresponding Secretary. Thanks to everyone who voted, and special thanks to our candidates for their willingness to serve in CEA leadership positions!

It has been quite a school year … but summer is here! We thank all of our members for their incredible work and dedication to their profession and their students throughout the year. We hope you all have a wonderful summer intersession! Be sure to check our calendar and follow our Twitter and Facebook pages to look for upcoming events and ways you can stay involved in the fight for public education funding throughout the summer.

The results of our Special Election are in, and since no candidate received a majority of the vote for Vice President, we are now holding a runoff election between Michelle Capriotti and Karla Palafox (the top two vote-getters). The deadline to vote in this important election is Tuesday, June 5 at 5:00 pm. Please visit our election page for voting instructions and candidate information. At the recent AEA Salute to Excellence two of our members (both media specialists!) were recognized as grant winners. Peg Newendyke of Santan JHS was awarded a California Casualty Athletic Grant that will benefit Santan’s Unified Sports program (run by Kim Welsh), and Carolyn McCleary of Auxier Elementary was awarded an AEA Diversity Grant to purchase picture books that will promote awareness, acceptance, and advocacy for all of the students at Auxier. Congratulations to both Peg and Carolyn for taking advantage of their membership and serving their students!

Our final General Meeting of the year will take place on Tuesday, May 15 at Serrano’s Mexican Restaurant in downtown Chandler. The meeting will start at 4:15 pm and last approximately one hour. Our general meeting is open to all CEA members, and we have a lot to discuss regarding next steps in the #REDforED movement, so we hope to see lots of you there! Please check your e-mail to RSVP.
