In an attempt to silence Invest in Ed, Speaker Mesnard has scheduled a last minute hearing to rewrite the ballot guide language tomorrow (Saturday, August 25). We need you and your fellow Invest in Ed activists at the Capitol tomorrow to be seen and heard! Attend a special briefing at 12:00 pm on Saturday, August 25 at AEA HQ, then fill House Hearing Room 4 at the State Capitol at 1:30 pm. See you there!

Our upcoming primary and general elections will give us an opportunity to fundamentally transform public education in Arizona. Our members know this, and after the events of the spring, they are more engaged in the political process than ever before. To help answer common questions about voting, CEA has created an online Voter Toolkit. This resource will provide our members with information on how to:

• register to vote
• request an early ballot
• find polling places
• research candidates’ positions on issues, especially those pertaining to public education

The Voter Toolkit can be found at chandlerea.org/votertoolkit. We hope this resource helps our members become informed, engaged voters this fall. Feel free to share it with others!

On Tuesday, August 7, CEA and Valley Interfaith Project sponsored a Candidate Forum featuring five candidates for Arizona Corporation Commission (all candidates running in this race were invited). On Tuesday, July 17, CEA and Valley Interfaith Project sponsored a Candidate Forum featuring six candidates for Arizona Senate and Arizona House of Representatives in Legislative District 12 (all candidates running in these races were invited). The Chandler Education Association and Valley Interfaith Project are holding an Arizona Corporation Commission Candidate Forum to help community members make an informed choice on this important election. The forum will take place on August 7, 2018 from 5:00-6:30 pm at Dayspring UMC, located at 1365 E Elliot Rd in Tempe. This forum is open to the public, but seating will be limited for this important event, so you must reserve your spot if you wish to attend. The Invest in Education campaign made history today when they turned in 270,000 signatures for the Invest in Education ballot initiative. This is almost 120,000 signatures more than what is needed to get the initiative on the ballot, and collecting this many signatures in such a short time period is simply unprecedented in Arizona. Thanks to all of our members who gave up precious summer vacation time to collect signatures … this wouldn’t have been possible without everyone’s efforts. Getting the initiative on the ballot is obviously only the first step, and we still have much work to do to get it passed. But first, we can take some time to celebrate this historic accomplishment. Thank you!

We have worked incredibly hard to gather signatures for the Invest in Education ballot initiative. Our members have been there throughout the summer doing the heavy lifting … don’t you want to be there when the signatures are submitted? Invest in Education will hold a press conference at the Arizona State Capitol on Thursday, July 5 from 9:20-10:00 am before our signatures are submitted to get Invest in Education on the ballot. Come out and celebrate our hard work, and be sure to bring signs and wear your Red for Ed shirts!
