Attending the Delegate Assembly has been a good experience. I have enjoyed representing CEA. It would be an honor to do so again. Thank you for your consideration.

Since moving to Arizona I have had the privilege of teaching for Chandler unified school district. I started my teaching career in the state of Iowa and I saw how important the union was there. I knew when I came to CUSD I had to be part of the union. I am currently a site representative at Chandler high school. I believe that it is important that we have our voices be heard. It is especially important now as funding and education is even more important for our students. I would be honored to represent the teachers of Chandler unified school district at the state delegate assembly.

My name is Diane Lundahl and I am honored to have been nominated to represent the CEA at the AEA Delegate Assembly as I did in 2020. Since the last assembly, I have been supporting the CEA mission to be involved in all aspects of the educational process and advocate for its members and the issues which affect them at my home campus of Hamilton High School as site representative. I have grown more than I could have imagined as an advocate this past year through the trust members at my site have placed in me, and I feel that participating in the AEA Delegate Assembly is a great way to represent the CEA at the state level. I have also learned much about the limits of representation this past year, and I hope to bring more insight back to our Chandler community from leadership at the AEA. There is still much work to be done, and I am committed to making our district one which we are proud to work in and represent.

My name is Carly Mahlmeister and I am a third-grade teacher at San Marcos elementary school and currently serve in a leadership role as CEA site rep. I am honored to be nominated to represent CEA at the AEA Delegate Assembly. I hope to continue to use my voice to advocate for positive changes in public education.

It has been an honor to serve as CEA President for the last two years. This summer, I served on the AEA COVID Task Force and I am co-chair of the AEA Legislative Task Force. Within CUSD, I have helped plan the Equity Symposium. I serve on the district COVID Task Force and the Super Prop Committee, and I am the chair of the Super Q Bargaining Team. In 2019, I attended my first DA and proposed two new business items. Since then, I have been actively trying to include member voice as much as possible in the business of the union. I am emphatically passionate about both public education and union work.

I have been teaching for 24 years, and I have been a CUSD teacher 14 of those years. I teach 6th grade at Hartford Sylvia Encinas Elementary. I am currently CEA Treasurer, and I serve as a site representative. As treasurer and site representative, I work to help other teachers learn and understand the importance of getting involved with policies and decisions involving our profession. I strongly believe if we work together to elevate and advocate for our profession, our students are the ones who ultimately benefit. It would be an honor to represent CEA at the AEA Delegate Assembly and NEA Representative Assembly in order to continue our work as a collective to bring much needed change to Arizona’s public schools. I hope to count on your support.

I never considered nominating myself to represent the CEA at the AEA Delegate Assembly because I didn’t feel I was involved enough in CEA. So, I was pleasantly surprised when I received an email regarding my nomination and that I had been nominated by a member of our executive board – I appreciate the confidence this person has in me. While I have been a member of the CEA since I began working in CUSD 13 years ago, I didn’t become involved in the group until the RedforEd movement when I became a liaison for Basha High. Since then, I have been a CEA rep for my school because I do want to be more involved with and knowledgeable about what is happening at our site, district, and state levels. I think having the opportunity to represent the CEA in this fashion will propel my involvement. I want to make a difference in our profession, and I feel this is one step toward the ability to do so.

I have worked for Chandler Unified School District for 18 years as a Special Education Case Manager, Co-teacher, and EDGE specialist. As a Co-teacher I have had the privilege to work in various classrooms through the years including math, science, Social Skills, and English classes. As a Case Manager I have work with students identified with disabilities of all areas. As a leader in schools and the community I have worked in many groups through the district and community: Marzano Evaluation, MTSS, EDGE Coordinator, Equity Team, and part of the EVABSE. I would love to attend the Delegate Assembly to hear the voices of our state’s decision-makers and contribute to that process. It would be a benefit to the CUSD community and schools to share this information.

I would very much like to serve as a CEA delegate to the NEA Representative Assembly because I am committed to and believe in our local, state, and national associations (I have been a member for all of my 25 years in education). I have served on the CEA Executive Board for the past 10 years, initially as Treasurer until being elected Recording Secretary in 2015. In addition to my duties as Recording Secretary, I also manage the CEA website and social media accounts. I have attended several AEA Days at the Capitol and have worked hard to help pass our CUSD bonds and overrides through neighborhood walks, volunteering at local events, and working with partner groups such as AZ Schools Now and Valley Interfaith Project. In 2020, I worked hard to collect signatures for Invest in Ed and then participated in phone banks to help pass Prop 208. I have attended several AEA Delegate Assemblies, and was elected to the AEA Board of Directors in 2018. I also serve as the chairperson of the AEA Elections Committee.

I have attended several NEA Representative Assemblies, and have always taken that responsibility seriously by being present and engaged during all RA sessions. For two of the last three RAs, at the request of AEA President Joe Thomas, I served on the Election Committee for the Arizona delegation. If elected to attend the 2021 RA, I will continue to represent CEA and Arizona with pride and diligence. I humbly ask for your support.

I have enjoyed participating in the AEA Delegate Assembly for several years. It has been a pleasure to represent CEA there. I have never gone to the NEA’s RA. I would love the opportunity to serve CEA there. Thank you for considering me.

In 2019, I attended my first RA loved every minute of it. I even spoke to a new business item that called on NEA to continue to push back against the privatization of public schools. Since then, I have been actively trying to include member voice as much as possible in the business of the union. I am emphatically passionate about both public education and union work.
