There are many ways to get involved in CEA, because there is so much that we need to accomplish! If you do not serve on our Executive Board or as an Association Representative, we still have several committees that provide a great way for members to get involved. Please review the list below, and consider joining (or even chairing) a committee. For more information, contact Michelle Capriotti, Vice President of Committees. Super Q

This is the bargaining team who meets with district leadership and ESPOC to negotiate how money is spent in the district, employee benefits, working conditions, etc.

Members: Appointed by the CEA President and Executive Board, with a goal of diverse representation.

Meetings: At least 5 scheduled meetings during the 2nd semester, normally taking place directly after the work day. Some training will be required.

Bargaining Committee

This committee works to create the yearly survey about salaries, benefits, and working conditions. They may also meet to help prepare the Super Q team for their bargaining sessions.

Members: Anyone interested

Executive Board Liaison: Josh Martin (CEA President)

Meetings: 1 to 2 in the beginning of the 2nd quarter, and 1 to 2 in the 2nd semester based on needs

Membership Committee

This committee meets throughout the year and helps CEA increase its membership through committee-created goals and programs. They also take the lead in organizing and running the New Teacher Lunches every summer.

Members: Anyone interested. There will need to be a chair for this committee.

Executive Board Liaison: Sara Crismon (CEA Vice President of Membership)

Meetings: Will occur periodically throughout the year based on committee needs. New Teacher Lunches do occur each summer the week before teachers report.

Political Action Committee

This committee works to support and elect education-friendly candidates at the local and state levels, as well as support or challenge ballot propositions and initiatives dealing with education. This committee also works to raise (and spend) funds for this use.

Members: Anyone interested.

Executive Board Liaison: Maria Hase (CEA Vice President of Political Action)

Meetings: Scheduled by the committee, with the busiest time of year being the summer into to fall (election season).

Elections Committee

This committee works to ensure CEA has elections which are transparent and fair for such positions as CEA Executive Board officers and CEA Association Representatives, as well as delegates for both the AEA Delegate Assembly and NEA Representative Assembly.

Members: A small group of anyone interested. There will need to be a chair for this committee.

Executive Board Liaison: Shaun Creighton (CEA Recording Secretary)

Meetings: Most of the work for this committee can be done online or through email, with almost all of the work done during the 2nd semester.

Grant Committee

This group sends out information to CEA members each year regarding the Members to Member grant process. They will also read, score, and rank the grant applications to determine grant recipients. They are responsible for keeping this program functioning with integrity.

Members: Functions best with at least six members. There will need to be a chair for this committee. To avoid conflicts of interest, members of this committee will not be eligible to apply for Members to Member grants.

Executive Board Liaison: Michelle Capriotti (CEA Vice President of Committees)

Meetings: One meeting during the middle of November, with some potential preparation work done online beforehand. Attendance at the final General Meeting of the fall semester is encouraged.

Student Scholarship Committee

This committee creates and maintains guidelines for the scholarship process. They will meet to score and determine the recipients of these scholarships.

Members: Functions best with at least six members. There will need to be a chair for this committee. To avoid conflicts of interest, relatives of members of this committee will not be eligible to apply for CEA scholarships.

Executive Board Liaison: Michelle Capriotti (CEA Vice President of Committees)

Meetings: One meeting at the end of April or beginning of May, with some potential preparation work done online beforehand. Members of this committee may also be called upon to present scholarships to recipients at high school Awards Night ceremonies if they are available and/or willing to do so.

Social Committee

This group of fun-loving individuals will work to create opportunities for members to get together to build relationships, friendships, and unity.

Members: Anyone interested. Should enjoy socializing.

Meetings: Meetings will occur throughout the year and will be scheduled at the first meeting of the year.

Constitution Committee

This committee will work to keep our CEA Constitution relevant and as a guiding document for our work. They might research other local associations’ Constitutions, help ensure our Constitution is in compliance with AEA, create policy statements for CEA, or suggest changes to our current Constitution as needed.

Members: Anyone interested. There will need to be a chair for this committee.

Meetings: Will meet at least once a year. Further meetings will depend on need, and much of this committee’s work can be conducted online.

Marketing/Publicity Committee

This committee will support the Corresponding Secretary by sharing the events, celebrations, and happenings in CEA through social media, email, newsletters, or any other appropriate means.

Members: Anyone interested. Preferably members with knowledge/skills in any one of the platforms needed to market and/or publicize CEA (e.g., Facebook Page Manager, Twitter, WordPress).

Executive Board Liaison: Sharon Tuttle (CEA Corresponding Secretary)

Meetings: Meetings will occur as needed. Most work can be done through digital means.

School Board Committee

This committee will attend and create a schedule of attendance at all CUSD school board meetings. The goal is to have at least two CEA members at each meeting.

Members: Anyone interested.

Executive Board Liaison: Michelle Capriotti (CEA Vice President of Committees)

Meetings: One initial planning meeting and then at least one school board meeting throughout the year.
